Bourne to Write
I am a retired English teacher and small-time editor. My first children’s book was just published in July (2025) by Covenant Books and am having a difficult time getting the word out. I had a website, Facebook page, a YouTube channel, and other platforms, but I really don’t have the time to deal with them. I deleted all of them. I do have my Amazon page, but I am so busy with fun “work” like watching my grandkids, writing two other books, and gardening that I literally don’t have time for social media.
I’m sure there are other people out there who don’t mess with social media for their own reasons and still promote their books. That’s what I want to do here.
My book is called Fun Images in the Clouds. I originally wrote this interactive book for my six-year-old granddaughter because after searching for a book that was science related to buy for her, I could not find anything close to what I was looking for. I gave up looking for a book and decided to write it myself!
It was actually a fun process finding cloud images to take pictures of and putting them all together in a way that talks about the types of clouds, weather, and comparing the shapes to things that kids could relate to in real life. I didn’t want the book to be a story, but more about tapping into one’s imagination to be creative and using critical thinking to relate the cloud shapes to something familiar to kids.
After reading this book to her, doing the activities in it, and deciding what the cloud shapes in the book looked like, we extended the fun to finding shapes in the clouds outside. She was hooked! We still have tons of fun searching the sky for cloud images every day that we’re together!
WARNING! This activity is addicting. Finding different cloud images is a lot of fun! Always be aware of your surroundings, and watch where you are going when you have your head in the clouds!
